Home Solar Panel Installation

Solar is an electrical project first. The panels are the easy part; the inverter, the tie-in to your main panel, the rapid-shutdown wiring, the grounding, and the utility interconnection are what make a system safe, code-compliant, and approved by Ameren. Caito Electric designs and installs residential solar across St. Charles County and the St. Louis metro with the same licensed electricians who upgrade panels and wire homes every day.

We size the system to your actual usage from your Ameren bill, show you the production estimate before you sign, and handle the permit, the structural letter, the inspection, and the net-metering application. Add a battery and the lights stay on when the grid goes down.

What's included

  • Rooftop systems on shingle, metal, and flat roofs; ground-mount where the yard allows
  • Battery backup with a critical-loads panel so the fridge, furnace, sump pump, and internet keep running
  • Solar-ready 200A panel upgrades when the existing panel has no room for a solar breaker
  • Ameren Missouri and Cuivre River net-metering interconnection paperwork handled for you
  • EV charger integration so the car charges on sunshine
  • Federal solar tax credit eligible; we provide the documentation your tax preparer needs

Is my home a good fit for solar?

  • A south, west, or east-facing roof with limited shade from trees or taller buildings
  • A roof with 10 or more years of life left (we will tell you honestly if it should be replaced first)
  • An electric bill of roughly $120 a month or more, or an EV, heat pump, or hot tub on the way
  • A main panel with capacity for a solar breaker, or room for a solar-ready upgrade

Not sure? Send us a photo of your roof from the street and a recent bill. We will tell you within a day whether it is worth a site visit.

What happens during a solar install

  1. Site audit. We photograph the roof, panel, and meter, review your usage, and confirm shading and structure.
  2. Design and proposal. A written proposal with system size, production estimate, and two prices (cash/ACH and card).
  3. Permits and utility. Building and electrical permits, structural letter where required, and the interconnection application.
  4. Installation. Racking, modules, inverter or microinverters, rapid shutdown, and the tie-in. Most homes take one to three days.
  5. Inspection and permission to operate. City inspection, then the utility swaps the meter and you flip the switch.

Battery backup for St. Louis storms

Ameren outages after summer storms and winter ice are a fact of life here. A battery paired with solar keeps a critical-loads panel running for hours or days without a generator, recharges from the roof the next morning, and can also shift usage to cheaper off-peak hours. We install and commission the battery, gateway, and transfer equipment as one system.

Questions about solar panel installation

How much does home solar cost in St. Louis?

Most residential systems fall between 6 and 12 kW. Price depends on roof type, system size, whether a panel upgrade is needed, and whether you add a battery. We give a written flat-rate proposal after the site audit, with the federal tax credit shown separately so you can see the net cost.

Does Ameren offer net metering?

Yes. Ameren Missouri and Cuivre River Electric both credit excess solar production. We file the interconnection application, coordinate the meter change, and walk you through how the credits show up on your bill.

Will solar work with my existing panel?

Often, yes. Solar backfeeds through a breaker in your main panel, and the panel has to have room and the right rating. If it does not, we quote a solar-ready 200A upgrade as part of the project so there are no surprises later.

Do I need HOA approval?

Missouri law limits how far an HOA can restrict solar, but most still require a review. We provide the drawings and spec sheets your HOA asks for.
