How much does EV charger installation cost in St. Louis?
The two biggest cost drivers are the distance from your panel to the charging location and whether your panel has spare capacity. A short run to an attached garage on a 200-amp service is the simplest case. Long runs to a detached garage, finished basements that require fishing wire, and panels that need a sub-panel or upgrade add labor and material. We quote flat-rate after a quick site visit or a few photos of your panel and garage.
Rebates and incentives
Ameren Missouri has offered residential and commercial EV charging incentives, and federal tax credits have applied to home charging equipment in qualifying areas. Programs change; we'll point you to current options and provide the itemized invoice those programs require.
Level 1 vs Level 2 charging
Level 1 charging uses a standard 120V outlet and adds roughly 3 to 5 miles of range per hour. Level 2 charging on a 240V circuit adds 20 to 40 miles per hour depending on your vehicle and charger amperage. For nearly every EV owner who commutes across the metro, Level 2 is the right answer.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger?
Yes. A new 240V circuit requires an electrical permit in St. Charles County, St. Louis County, and the municipalities we serve. We pull it and schedule the inspection.
Should I hardwire the charger or use a NEMA 14-50 outlet?
Hardwiring supports higher amperage (up to 48A), avoids plug wear, and is required by some manufacturers for their fastest charging. A 14-50 outlet is a good choice if you want flexibility to take the charger with you. We'll recommend based on your vehicle and panel.
Can you install a charger in a detached garage?
